Frequently Asked Questions

How does this QR code generator work?
Enter your content (URL, text, WiFi credentials, email, or phone number), customize the colors and size, and click Generate. The QR code is created instantly using the goQR.me API — a reliable, free QR code generation service. You can then download it as a PNG image for use anywhere: websites, print materials, business cards, product packaging, and more.
What can I encode in a QR code?
Our tool supports five content types: URL (website links), Text (any plain text up to ~4,000 characters), WiFi (network name + password for easy sharing), Email (pre-filled recipient, subject, and body), and Phone (tap to call). Each type formats the data correctly so scanning apps recognize it automatically.
Are there usage limits?
No. Generate unlimited QR codes for free. No signup required, no daily limits, no hidden fees.
What's the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?
Static QR codes (what our tool creates) contain the data directly in the code pattern. Once generated, the content cannot be changed. They work offline and never expire. Dynamic QR codes point to a redirect URL that can be changed later, but require an active server and often come with subscription fees. For most use cases — sharing a website, WiFi, or contact info — static QR codes are simpler, more reliable, and free.

📋 QR Code Design Best Practices

Choose the Right Size for Your Medium
For print materials (business cards, flyers), generate QR codes at minimum 2×2 cm (about 200×200 pixels). For posters and signage viewed from a distance, scale up to at least 5×5 cm. For digital screens, 200-300 pixels is sufficient. Our size selector lets you generate at 150, 200, 250, or 300 pixels — choose based on your final output medium. Remember: the scanning distance should be roughly 10× the QR code size.
Maintain Adequate Contrast
QR scanners need contrast between the dark modules (foreground) and light modules (background). Always use dark foreground colors (black, dark blue, dark green) on light backgrounds (white, light gray). Avoid light-on-dark combinations — most scanners are optimized for dark-on-light patterns. Our custom color picker lets you choose any colors, but for maximum scannability, stick with the default black-on-white.
Add a Quiet Zone Around the QR Code
Every QR code needs a "quiet zone" — a clear margin around all four sides equal to at least 4 modules wide. This white space helps scanners distinguish the QR code from surrounding design elements. When placing a QR code in a layout, ensure no text, images, or borders encroach on this zone. Our generated QR codes include the quiet zone automatically.
Test Before Printing in Bulk
Always test your QR code with multiple devices (iPhone, Android, different scanner apps) before committing to large print runs. Test at the actual size it will be printed. Test under different lighting conditions. Test after any color adjustments. A few minutes of testing can save hundreds in reprint costs. Download the PNG and test it on screen, then print a single copy and test again.
Understanding QR Code Error Correction
QR codes include built-in error correction that allows them to be scanned even when partially damaged or obscured. There are four levels: L (Low, ~7%) — smallest code, least durable. M (Medium, ~15%) — good balance, most common. Q (Quartile, ~25%) — good for adding logos. H (High, ~30%) — largest code, most durable. Our tool uses Level M by default, which is suitable for most use cases. If you plan to overlay a logo, consider using a service that supports higher error correction levels.

💡 Creative Ways to Use QR Codes

Social Media Growth
Create a QR code linking to your Linktree, Beacons, or custom landing page with all your social profiles. Place it on your laptop sticker, phone case, or content backdrop. When someone scans it, they get instant access to your Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and website in one tap — no typing usernames. This is particularly effective at networking events and conferences.
Smart Home & IoT
Print WiFi QR codes and frame them in your guest room or Airbnb. Generate QR codes for smart home device setup instructions. Create QR codes linking to home maintenance schedules, appliance manuals, or emergency contact numbers. Stick them inside cabinet doors or on the fridge for easy access.
Art & Creative Projects
Embed QR codes in artwork linking to artist statements, behind-the-scenes videos, or purchase pages. Create interactive gallery experiences where each QR code reveals a different audio track or video. Use QR codes in zines and indie publications linking to digital bonus content. The contrast between analog art and digital links creates compelling multimedia experiences.
Personal Use & Life Hacks
Print a QR code of your contact info and stick it on your luggage tag, laptop, or phone case — if lost, the finder can instantly contact you. Create QR codes for your recurring grocery list and stick it on the fridge. Generate QR codes for your favorite recipes and create a kitchen recipe wall. The possibilities are limited only by what you can encode in text or a URL.
